Lake Chiemsee and the rivers Alz and Tiroler Ache are rich in fish, with over 13 species including eel, perch, pike, roach, whitefish, char, catfish, burbot and zander.
Fish has always been an important part of the diet in our region, and today around 16 professional fishermen supply the catering industry and retailers with freshly caught and smoked fish. But recreational and sport anglers can also pursue their hobby in a variety of ways while on holiday: the fishing season at Lake Chiemsee runs from 1 May to 31 October each year, with several exceptions such as the nature reserve at the mouth of the Achen, where fishing is prohibited all year round. Please observe the protected areas, fishing seasons and minimum sizes. You need a permit to fish on Lake Chiemsee. Trolling and spinning licences for boats and the shore are available from us at the Tourist Information Office on a daily, weekly or seasonal basis. Prices and further information can be found here.
