Hofanger Park

On leaving Gstadt in the direction of Gollenshausen, the smaller of the town’s two districts, directly on the banks of Lake Chiemsee, opposite Fraueninsel (“Women’s Island”) you’ll find the Hofanger Park. The term “Hofanger” comes from "Hopfenanger" (literally “hop garden”) as hops used to be grown on this area. Early in 2008, a small park opened here with various facilities, not only for recreation and entertainment, but also offering interesting information to its visitors.

The Hofanger Restaurant invites you to try their culinary delights, either in its pavilion or on its terrace. With its large glass façade, a unique panoramic view over the Chiemsee, the Fraueninsel and the Chiemgau Alps can be enjoyed from both inside and out.

On the lakeside, at the large picnic table, visible from the restaurant, the playground equipment and, as a special attraction, a small creek can be enjoyed by our young visitors. For All the Senses...

A small stone labyrinth shows you the way to yourself while the rose garden, the garden of medicinal plants and herb beds will invite you to linger for a while. This is where, in the planet beds, you can learn about cosmic energies and there are cloister garden plants, plants from Hildegard von Bingen, women’s plants and kitchen herbs to discover. Sensuous experiences are provided by the scented plants, edible flowers and various types of sage and wormwood, as well as the butterfly beds, where you can see a wide variety of insects from spring through autumn.

...and the Spirit

From a special viewing platform, the scenery can be explored with a telescope and with the help of a diagram of the mountain panorama, the peaks of the Chiemgau Alps can be named accordingly. Relevant information about the Hofanger can be found on information boards or personally from the tour guides, from May to October.

Oase

An Oasis

The whole site is planted with old varieties of fruit, which can be harvested in autumn, and an 8 meter long oak table offers enough room for communal picnics or for working with medicinal plants as part of a guided tour. Over the whole area you can find different places to rest in front of the magnificent backdrop of the lake and the Chiemgau Alps.
